Quack & Quail

The Duck Club has land in Johnston and Halifax Counties. The tracks range is with some large swamps, beaver ponds, farm ponds, fields, and impoundments both planted and native grasses. Like the Quail Club, we pride ourselves in being good stewards of the land and try to give back what we take. We maintain Wood Duck boxes each year and in 2009, we started building and putting out Hen Houses for mallards. These are great projects for kids and other family members to join in and have some fun, too. Each year we try to add some new land for the club so we do not over hunt any one area. This will give some of our places a rest from hunting pressure. We also have a track of land on the Roanoke River. This track has 2 impoundments, a large pond, and a private boat ramp.

The Quail Club is located in 4 tracts in Halifax County. We have 900 plus acres of prime Quail Hunting. The goal of the Quail Club is to be good stewards of the land we lease. We have planted and thinned pines along with large open fields for hunting. Our Club is set up for both avid and beginner quail hunters. The Quail Club is listed as a Hunting Preserve for its members so they can also keep their dogs trained. We also have a place to stay overnight and to keep your dogs.
The 1st track we have is a 250 acre planted tree farm. It has 130 acres of planted and thinned pines set up in blocks with trails all around it. It makes for easy walking and hunting. Plus, it has a swamp that should make for some great woodcock hunting.

The 2nd track is 100 plus acres of newly planted pines and some mature pines for hunting. There is also a hard wood bottom that is great for turkey hunting. We will also be working on the field borders to improve quail nesting and feeding areas.

Our 3rd track is up the road from both of these tracks. This tract has some fields set aside in Government programs for Wildlife. There are large fields that have been planted in young hard woods that are great for quail hunting. There are other fields that are planted in either corn, soybeans, or peanuts rotated every year. We also have food plots planted in sunflowers and sorghum for dove hunting.

These Clubs are separate but share some land and the Web site. Both Clubs share in dove, turkey, and some limited deer hunting. Plus we share in fishing. You can belong to just 1 Club or both Clubs. Both Clubs work with a non profit group called Enduring Gratitude. We set up a Quail Hunt for both Active and Wounded Warriors each year. This is a great event and gets larger each year.
